The Perthshire Society of Natural Science (PSNS) is partnering with the Historic Towns Trust (HTT) to publish a new historical map of Perth. HTT have done this for a number of UK cities but Perth will be the first Scottish city to have one. On one side will be the map overlaid with colour coded outlines of historic sites and on the reverse will be a gazetteer describing the history of each site within the context of the broader story.

Several members of Perth Civic Trust are on the working group of local volunteers busy identifying and describing the key places in Perth’s history for inclusion in the Map. It is hoped that items which don’t ‘make the cut’ will be included in a much larger Historical Atlas of Perth, although funding for this has yet to be secured. Thanks to contributions from other local trusts the Map itself is fully funded.

The intention is to have the map completed and published for the opening of the new Perth Museum in 2024. PSNS would really like everyone to feel they can make a meaningful contribution. Written notes can be left with the staff at Perth Art Gallery, or by email to httperth.2023@gmail.com or use our contact page.

Articles about the project were published in the Courier on 6th April 2023 and the Perthshire Advertiser on 7th April 2023 (see gallery images below).
